CALI is being recognized by Floor Covering Weekly as a 2022 GreenStep award winner. The company’s bamboo flooring, which marked CALI’s entry into the flooring arena 15 years ago, was chosen by a panel of flooring associations as an exceptional sustainable product. A total of 14 manufacturers submitted for consideration in the Product category.
Now in its 14th year, the GreenStep Awards event is hosted by the industry publication to recognize sustainability practices in the flooring world and encourage continued development of planet-conscious innovation. The ceremony was held on Wednesday August 24 in Dalton, GA.
Speaking at the event, CALI Communications Specialist, Laura Kaplan-Nieto thanked fellow award recipients and honorees for working to “find ways to make the industry a little kinder to the planet and future generations.” She said, “CALI is committed to continuing to innovate and drive these efforts so we have even more to celebrate next year.”
CALI strives to offer the most responsible green flooring options that out-shine and out-perform the rest. As one of the fastest growing plants on Earth, bamboo can be harvested for flooring every five to seven years without damaging the plant or the surrounding ecosystem. This helps prevent habitat loss, soil erosion, sedimentation in waterways, and the release of CO2. Compared to timber, which can take 30-50 years to reach full mass before being cut down completely, bamboo is far more sustainable, and — using CALI’s Fossilizing process — more durable.
Durability is key, because to make an eco-friendly product viable in the marketplace, it must perform just as well if not better than the status quo options. CALI’s solid Fossilized bamboo flooring scores up to 5,500 on the Janka Hardness Scale, making it four times harder than oak. A variety of colors and styles offer customers options that can either mimic popular hardwood looks or play up strand bamboo’s unique, exotic grain. There are also sizes and constructions for every installation type, ranging from solid and engineered planks to hybrid planks with a waterproof SPC core – perfect for bathrooms, basements, and kitchens.
All CALI flooring has ultra-low VOCs and tests well below Super E0 environmental emissions standards, making it a healthy choice for any customer or setting. Commercial clients can also earn LEED points for projects by opting for sustainable building materials like bamboo flooring.
