Cali Bamboo Launches First Annual Green Against the Machine Event
Cali Bamboo was founded on one critical, driving principle: A passionate commitment to make a difference today for a more sustainable future tomorrow. Closely aligned with this mission is our keen awareness of a responsibility to give back amidst unprecedented growth trends. With this “Corporate Social Responsibility” in mind, we chose this year (our 12th year) to launch our very own annual charity fundraiser in the form of a benefit concert, aptly named “Green Against the Machine” (GATM).
Rather than celebrating each year internally, we want to use our anniversary (August 25) as a platform to give back to our local Southern California community through our four charity partners: Rady Children’s Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, the San Diego Humane Society, and Surfrider.
This year’s GATM event took place at popular Solana Beach venue The Belly Up, and featured local reggae band and headliner Tribal Theory along with DJ Carlos Culture. The event was advertised and attended by two local radio stations: BOB Radio and 94.9FM. Many of the partners and vendors we work with on a regular basis participated by donating directly to the charities, providing items for raffle, or supporting the cause by covering specific event costs. Sponsors included BDO, Titebond, San Diego Cake Pop Shop, Kuehne&Nagel, RBN&Associates, SkyriverIT, and Wells Fargo.
More than 400 people attended the concert, including nearly all of the existing Cali Bamboo staff. Between raffle item donations, tickets sold, partner and sponsor donations, raffle tickets, and individual contributions, GATM’s first year raised an approximate total of $10,721. All cash and credit ticket proceeds and donations will be split between the four charities.
Cali Bamboo is deeply grateful for the support of our sponsors and charity partners, the band (including manager Jared Hamilton, who provided endless assistance and guidance), Belly Up staff, DJ, and many others who participated in making this first year a resounding success. We look forward to even more funds raised in future and the continued success of the Green Against the Machine event for many years to come.
