U.S. Lacey Act Policy Statement

U.S. Lacey Act Policy Statement

As a matter of policy all CALI wood, bamboo, and cork products are in full compliance with the Lacey Act. These rules prohibit or restrict the importation, sale, distribution of certain plants and plant products including wood. The Lacey Act was first enacted in 1900 and is the oldest federal wildlife protection law in the U.S. It is designed to protect and conserve wildlife, fish, and plants.

How are the standards met?

As an importer and distributor of plant-based flooring products, CALI maintains a well- documented compliance record with Lacey requirements. CALI is committed to conservation and ensuring that all plant-based flooring products are legally harvested and sourced in accordance with federal law and properly declared to U.S. Customs and Border Protection with required and accurate information including species, genus, quantity, and country of harvest.

Steps for Compliance:

  • Supplier Education
CALI will regularly instruct and educate all suppliers on the requirements to ensure that all plant-based materials are legally harvested and to provide all required information for each shipment
  • Third-Party Certification
All suppliers are subject to third party auditing on at least an annual basis to evaluate and confirm compliance with Lacey requirements. If suppliers fail to meet audit standards, CALI may terminate the business relationship.
  • Supplier Certification
All suppliers working with CALI must read and sign a Declaration Agreement certifying their compliance with all Lacey requirements, including legal harvesting, sourcing, and control across the entire supply chain.
  • Internal Accountability
All employees working directly with suppliers are responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance with all Lacey standards. Employees who fail to meet standards may be subject to disciplinary action, including termination.
  • Training
Employees working directly with suppliers are trained on Lacey requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Reporting
For each shipment into the United States CALI will report and declare all required data elements to U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the time of importation, including species, genus, quantity, and country of harvest.
  • Recordkeeping and Maintenance
All records supporting compliance must be maintained for a period of not less than 3 years.
